Embryo Not Implanting? The Role of Immune Tests and the Uterine Lining

When immune tests are needed if pregnancy doesn't hold, and why the thickness of the uterine lining isn't enough on its own.

Dr. Ramy Agamy

Tried everything and still no pregnancy? The cause might be immune-related.

Immune tests

Sometimes a pregnancy doesn't continue, or the embryo doesn't implant, because of immune problems.

Tests such as ANA, antiphospholipid antibodies and NK cells show whether the body is rejecting the embryo.

If a problem shows up, there are treatments such as cortisone or supportive medications. But we don't order these tests at the first attempt... the case has to call for them.

If you've had recurrent miscarriages, this is for you.

The role of the uterine lining

The lining isn't just about thickness... its appearance matters too.

The uterine lining (endometrium) needs to be thick, regular and responsive to hormones.

If it has inflammation, is thin or doesn't grow properly, it can prevent the embryo from implanting.

We follow it with ultrasound, and sometimes take a sample for analysis. Treatment is simple... but we need to know the cause.

If you've ever been told your "lining is weak", don't stay silent about it.
