ICSI Step by Step From Day One, and How Age Affects Success

The steps of ICSI from ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer, and how the wife's age affects the chances of success.

Dr. Ramy Agamy

From the first day of the cycle to embryo transfer, this is the ICSI journey.

The steps of ICSI

  1. Ovarian stimulation with specific medications.
  2. Ultrasound follow-up until the eggs reach a certain size.
  3. Egg retrieval under light anesthesia.
  4. Injecting the eggs with sperm.
  5. Monitoring the embryos and transferring the best ones to the uterus.

Does age affect ICSI success?

Yes. Success in ICSI depends on the wife's age:

  • Before 35: a higher chance of success and better egg quality.
  • Between 35 and 40: there is still a chance, but it is lower.
  • After 40: the chances drop, and sometimes we consider freezing or other options depending on the case.

If you're thinking about starting and aren't sure about the right time, book a consultation to discuss your case.
