Obstetric and Gynecologic Surgery

Gynecologic operations such as fibroid and ovarian cyst removal and prolapse repair, and cesarean delivery when there is a medical reason, preserving fertility whenever possible.

Obstetric and gynecologic surgery covers operations that treat conditions of the reproductive system, and cesarean delivery when there is a medical reason for it. The aim of every operation is to treat the problem with the least intervention possible, keeping the uterus, the ovaries and fertility whenever it can be done.

Gynecologic surgery

  • Myomectomy (fibroid removal): keeping the uterus, by laparoscopy or open surgery depending on the size, number and position of the fibroids.
  • Ovarian cyst removal, keeping the healthy ovarian tissue.
  • Repair of uterine and vaginal prolapse.
  • Treatment of incomplete miscarriage with safe methods.
  • Cervical procedures when a Pap smear shows changes.

Cesarean delivery

A cesarean is a safe operation, but it is major surgery, so it is done when there is a medical reason, such as:

  • A breech or transverse baby.
  • Placenta previa.
  • Fetal distress during labor.
  • Labor that does not progress.
  • Some cases of a previous cesarean.

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS)

Enhanced recovery programs are a modern, evidence-based approach that speeds up recovery after surgery. They include:

  • Spinal anesthesia for a cesarean, so the mother is awake and sees her baby right away.
  • Good pain control after the operation.
  • Early mobilization within hours of the operation.
  • An early return to eating and drinking.

Before any operation

There is a full assessment, with examination, ultrasound and the necessary tests, and an explanation of the steps, the alternatives and the risks, so the decision is clear and shared.
